Okay, this is yet another rant inspired by another part of the internet so bear with me.
Hi, my name is Meg and I identify as a cisgendered pansexual female. Now all of that sentence was necessary for me to explain pansexuality, especially my pansexuality. Pansexual basically means that gender is not a deciding factor when it comes to the people that i am attracted to. How is that different than bisexual you might ask, and i have a picture to help me explain that.
Now you see with this picture that gender is shown as a continuum, not two little boxes that you can check off on a form. The BI in bisexual indicates at least to me that there is only 2 options for me to love, and since I have been attracted to people who fall all over this continuum I don’t feel as if that applies to me.
Pansexual basically means that I like who I like, I don’t really care what gender they identify as or what gender was assigned to them at birth, and I sure as hell don’t care if those match up.
Pansexuality does not make me greedy, it does not make me cheat on my significant others, it does not make me a slut, it does not mean I am promiscuous (not that it would matter if I am or not), It does not make me a Lesbian who is too afraid to come out fully, and it does not make me a straight girl who is kissing girls to get attention from guys. It means that I am an equal opportunity employer.
It’s not the same as bisexual either.
Be jealous, b i t c h e s.

Anonymous asked: how/when did you realize you were pan? was it difficult for you to come to terms with? I think it was around fall, maybe September? It was hard to come to terms with.. I eventually realized that, well, I obviously had a crush on my friend who was a girl. And I didn’t really understand like.. What I would label myself because by that time I had been exposed to so much of the LGBTQIA+ movement and had several trans* friends. I had a crush on my guy friend who was a FTM(female to male) and I thought.. Well, it didn’t really matter about what he had been or what he was now. So.. I googled sexuality looking for some answers. When I found this website, it all felt right; everything fell into place. I found labels I didn’t even knew existed, but they felt right to me. I’m one of those people who have to put a label/name to something I’m feeling or it causes me unrest. Being able to put a word to it made me feel so much better. I found http://gaychristian.tumblr.com/ and Justin Lee from the Gay Christian Network (videos here) and.. I felt a whole lot better. I’ve never been one to go to church, but I still pray and give thanks every day. Pansexuality for me is being gender blind. I am able to love anyone simply based on their personality rather than if they’re female or male or agender(no gender) or if they’re genderfluid(sometimes male, sometimes female) or any other type of gender. Because, it’s hearts, not parts, for me. And even if I’m not sure I understand what their gender is or what makes them identify as that, I accept that they are that and that’s that. |
just my opinion.
i’m bisexual btw so don’t be like U DONT UNDERSTAND BEING A SEXUAL DEVIANT!
That kind of hurts my feelings, to be honest.
It’s like saying that being homosexual isn’t real — people are just forging it.
That’s not true, we all know, and neither is pansexual a fake thing.
I don’t base who I love on their gender — you could call me gender-blind.
I base who I love on their heart and their minds.
That’s what it means to be pansexual.

An Accepted Prejudice: Gay Discrimination
Homophobia: n unreasoning fear of or antipathy towards homosexuals and homosexuality (dictionary.com). How many times has one heard another state “Dude, stop, that’s gay”? We do nothing about it, yet if one was to hear “Dude, stop, you’re acting black” or “Bro, stop being a woman” one would object to the speaker’s choice of words. This prejudice towards gays needs to be highlighted in everyday life, so that we may realize our mistakes. By not correcting one’s peers when they state “that’s gay”, one is also contributing to this gay discrimination. Although it may not be violently, one is still saying that it is ok for another to “gay bash”.
Hate crimes against gays are more prevalent than any other type of hate crime in the United States. A study by Janet Smith explains:
“We then compared the level of hate crime aimed at each group to that group’s percentage in the population to determine the group’s rate of victimization compared to its representation in the population. For homosexuals, for example, it was calculated that they are victimized at 8.3 times the expected rate (17.4 divided by 2.1). The other categories were as follows: Jews were victimized at 3.5 times the expected rate, blacks at 3.2 times, Muslims at 1.9 times, Latinos at 0.6 times, and whites at 0.2 times.”
Youths under the age of 21 are responsible for over 50% of all anti-gay crimes (Ramon). Every day, 13 homosexual Americans, ages 15-24, commit suicide. Yearly, one third of all teenage suicides committed are homosexuals (Statistics). 26% of all gay teens are forced out of their homes due to conflict with parental figures. Although the percentage of hate crimes in America has been slowly decreasing over the past couple years, hate crimes against homosexuals have been increasing steadily (Bello). Nineteen states still do not have any specialized laws condoning these hate crimes against homosexuals, and “until we make laws that make it clear that these attacks are not OK, the nation will continue to be scarred” (Giuliano).
One may disagree, stating that “being homosexual is unnatural”, but one would be wrong. Expert Petter Boeckman states that “no species has been found in which homosexual behavior has not been shown to exist”. But even if that is true, the Bible must say something about how gays are not allowed to be together, right? Most scriptures that are fed to one are taken out of context or twisted to take the form of what the speaker wants to convey. The word homosexual is a modern term, so it is not in the Bible. In the Greek version of the Bible, Paul uses the term “arsenokoitai”, which was not a well-used word at the time. This term, arsenokoitai, means “corrupter of boys”; as in rapist. If Paul wished to convey what we now know as homosexual, he would have used the term “paiderasste”. Galatians 3:28 claims “There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; there is no male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus”. But, for argument’s sake, let us just say that the Bible outright said that homosexuals are unnatural abominations. The Bible also says:
Don’t let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19). Do not have a variety of crops on the same field (Leviticus19:19). Do not wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19). Do not cut your hair nor shave (Leviticus 19:27). Any person, who curseth his mother or father, must be killed (Leviticus 20:9). If a man cheats on his wife, or vice versa, both the man and the woman must die (Leviticus 20:10). If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be “cut off from their people” (Leviticus 20:18). Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death (Leviticus 20:27). If a priest’s daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake (Leviticus 21:9). People who have flat noses, or are blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18). Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community (Leviticus 24:14-16). Kill anyone with a different religion (Deuteronomy 17:2-7).
If you decide to ostracize or commit a hate crime against a homosexual, and use the Bible as justification; you had better check if you are wearing polyester, because that too is punishable by death.
On a personal front, I have multiple family members and friends who are homosexual. My sister, my cousin, and some of my best friends find the same sex attractive. I am not saying I agree with it, but we should all allow others to be happy. When my sister came out the closet, it was a bit of culture shock for my parents. They constantly searched for explanations, but always came up with different answers. But this change really changes nothing; she is still my sister, and always will be. The only way it affects me is that one day I’ll have 3 sisters instead of two. Regretfully, my parents will never feel the same way, because they were raised in an environment in which homosexuality didn’t exist.
I believe a solution to the wide spread problem of prejudice against gays would be to actually present it as a problem. Our generation has already been desensitized to the derogatory words used for homosexuals. I propose that we, as an entire age group, rise up and address this problem; taking on the responsibility of teaching our children the difference between accepting and ostracizing gays. We should reach out to our children, as to avoid becoming as irrational and un-patriotic as the members of the Westboro Baptist Church. The Westboro Baptist Church bases its foundation on anti-gay and anti-America sermons, picketing veterans’ and soldiers’ funerals, with the justification of their actions being that America is a country full of “fag enablers”. These extremes must be avoided at all costs. America was founded on groups of individuals seeking freedom from oppression, so, why do we constantly seek to oppress others?
